Helping hand: Anthony Martial sets up Wayne Rooney to score
Wayne Rooney admitted he did not know anything about Anthony Martial before his £36million deadline-day move to Manchester United.
But the Reds skipper was lauding his new team-mate after another inspired display from the teenage sensation helped his team go top of the table with a 3-0 win against Sunderland.
Martial, who had scored four goals in as many games, may not have found the net on this occasion, but it was arguably his most effective display so far.
His quick feet, clever movement, pace and running off the ball caused havoc in the Sunderland defence and he provided the assist for Rooney’s first Premier League goal of the season.
That ended his 1,000-minute drought stretching from April 4.

Off the mark: Rooney scores their second goal
“I wasn’t worried,” said Rooney. “It’s my fifth goal of the season for United and I’ve scored for England, so it was just all about getting off the mark in the league.
“Hopefully everyone will concentrate on me playing my football now and I’ll enjoy it.”
United’s only league blemishes this season were a goalless draw at home to Newcastle and defeat at Swansea, but next month will be the true test of their title pedigree.
Louis van Gaal’s side – who host Wolfsburg in the Champions League on Wednesday – travel to Arsenal on Sunday, before a trip to Everton and the derby showdown with Manchester City at Old Trafford on October 25
